Nordic Combined Introduction
"A discipline reserved for male athletes, Nordic Combined is a sport that include ski jumping and cross country skiing. It was introduced in Norway in the mid 19th century. Ski jumping and long cross country treks were part of the daily routine for military officers patrolling the borders. In response to the age old dispute between ski jumpers and cross country skiers, each claiming that their sport was more demanding, a competition called "Nordic Combined" was introduced. This event boasts many practitioners, and it was one of the original events at the first Winter Olympics, held in Chaminox in 1924. A team event was added at the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary."
