"Last Days of Canada's World Dominance." World of Hockey: Celebrating a Century of the IIHF. Szymon Szemberg and Andrew Podnieks. eds, 24-35. Bolton, ON: Fenn Publishing Co., 2007.

AB: This chapter outlines the success of two Alberta Sports Hall of Fame and Museum inducted teams, the 1950 Edmonton Waterloo Mercurys and the 1951 Lethbridge Maple Leafs. The success of these two teams at the World Championships, and the Mercurys' subsequent Olympic gold medal victory at Oslo in 1952, would be the last highpoints for Canada in international hockey until 2002. Included are the politics behind the Canadian Amateur Hockey Association in this period, excellent photos of the teams and their competitors and commentary on the competition between professional and amateur sports in this era.
