Fillingham, Eldon James. "Major League Hockey: an Industry Study." Thesis, (M.B.A.). University of Alberta, 1977.

AB: This critique examines the National Hockey League and World Hockey Association as competing companies within an industry concerned with profit maximization. As numerous teams are confronted by issues reducing their profit margins, three possible solutions are put forward: allow unsuccessful teams to fail, improve the supply of potential players and recruit more qualified managerial staff. The basis of this industrial competition comes with the establishment of the WHA in 1971 as a rival to the then dominate NHL.
