Summer Coordinator

Location: Alberta Sports Hall of Fame and Museum, Red Deer Alberta. Position
Dates: Full time; May 14 - Aug 24, 2018
Hours: 7 hours / day - 35 hours / week; (includes weekends and stat holidays)

The Alberta Sports Hall of Fame and Museum is hiring an engaging and enthusiastic Summer Coordinator. The position requires an individual to provide reception services including ticket sales to the Alberta Sports Hall of Fame and Museum; visitor services providing tours and interacting with the public within the museum, coordinating summer activities for children, assisting with sport history research and assisting with the coordination of the annual golf tournament fundraiser.  Individuals who are passionate about sport and enjoy a fast paced and unique employment opportunity are welcome to apply.

Skills Required: familiar with Microsoft Office 2007; familiar with handling money; organized; have good communication and interpersonal skills; and able to work independently and as a team member.

Eligibility:
- Student must have been a full-time student this year and enrolled in full-time studies at a college or university this fall in order to qualify for funding. Must be Canadian citizen between the ages of 16 – 30 years of age.
- Student must be registered with Young Canada Works (YCW) prior to being interviewed and all candidates selected must be approved by YCW to confirm their eligibility in advance of them being offered a position.
- A criminal record check is required for this student position

Job Description:

  1. Reception:
    --responsible for greeting visitors, processing ticket sales, answering multi-line phone, booking and confirming group tours. Ensure boardroom is ready for the next booking. General office duties and computer tasks.
  2. Visitor Services:
    - responsible for greeting visitors to the museum; providing a tour of the museum to visitors and groups; and assisting them by answering questions, explaining exhibits and artifacts. Providing educational talks to school and summer program groups. General maintenance in the museum. Opening and closing the museum.
  3. Hall of Fame Program Services:
    - coordinate summer activities for children, assist the Collections & Exhibit Coordinator with research and the data entry of collections, assist with golf tournament fundraiser. Assist with sport history research.
  4. Special Events:
    - assist with and attend annual Induction Banquet on June 1, 2018 and annual Golf Tournament on August 9, 2018.

Summer Collections Assistant

Location: Alberta Sports Hall of Fame and Museum, Red Deer Alberta. Position 
Dates: Full time; Jun 4 - Aug 24, 2018
Hours: 7 hours / day - 35 hours / week; (may include weekends and stat holidays)

The Collections and Research Assistant position entails data entry of artifacts, scanning of archival material, research, filing and assist the Collections and Exhibit Coordinator with exhibit planning. Training will be provided for handling of artifacts and using the museum’s database.

Skills Required: - familiar with Microsoft Office 2007; familiar with handling money; organized; have good communication and interpersonal skills; and able to work independently and as a team member.
- Previous museum and digitization experience an asset.

    • Scan in archival collection
    • Complete the data entry of artefacts into Virtual Collections
    • Enter new artifacts into the database
    • Help with research and planning of new exhibits

Summer Education Assistant

Location: Alberta Sports Hall of Fame and Museum, Red Deer Alberta. Position 
Dates: Full time; Jun 4 - Aug 24, 2018
Hours: 7 hours / day - 35 hours / week; (may include weekends and stat holidays)

The Education Assistant Coordinator will work as an integral part of the Alberta Sports Hall of Fame and Museum to enhance educational resources and activities and promote their availability to teachers, students, and the public.

Skills Required:- familiar with Microsoft Office 2007; organized; exceptional communication and interpersonal skills; and able to work independently and as a team member. Background in education or working with children is an asset.

Job Description:

  1. Educational Program Development:
    - Become familiar with current educational materials, museum resources, and programs. Review available curriculum changes and provide input on changes to be made to existing programs. Creation of new programs that are in line with the current curriculum including a teaching component and a hands-on activity.
  2. Educational Program Promotion 
    - Develop an outreach plan to engage local educators, recruit volunteers, and provide basic level training to staff on any changes made to the program. Expand database for distribution of our teachers newsletter.
  3. Program Delivery:
    - Coordinate and deliver summer activities for children, kids camps, and schools who visit the museums over the summer months.
